9 December 2020
Online event Thursday 17 December 2020 18:30
It has been a long, grueling year for care workers across the country. We have been let down by the Tory government who have treated us as disposable. We’ve put our lives and our family’s lives at risk.
We’ve struggled for safe work places, secure employment, PPE and sick pay. We’ve done this whilst supporting some of the most vulnerable in our communities. We’ve adapted to opaque government guidelines, stood alongside those we support, whilst demanding safe practices and the rights of families to see their loved ones. We have made sacrifices. We have done all this on poverty wages but we’ve still had it in us to fight back.
As we draw to the end of 2020 we must make demands and continue to take action. We can no longer accept that our work is undervalued and underpaid. We have demonstrated our skills and compassion and we can not let it be forgotten.
There’s a growing anger amongst care workers and this has been shown by care workers taking on their employers and demanding better. Quality care deserves quality pay.
2021 must be the year of action and change.
