Creeping Fascism in Europe

7.00pm – 9.00pm

Meeting with speakers from the Nouveau Parti AntiCapitaliste (France), Internationale Sozialistische Organisation (Germany) and Rise (Ireland)

We are facing dangerous times. The far right and neo-fascists are not just banging at the door trying to get in; some are already inside. They are in government in Hungary and Italy. The National Rally in France and the Freedom Party in the Netherlands both got over a third of the vote in recent elections. Britain has not been spared this shift. Farage’s Reform got 14%  of the vote, with over 4 million voting for the party. These parties share similar platforms: stop migration, restore national pride, be tough on law and order, and push back “woke” progressive social values.

Many centre-right and social liberal parties have paved the way for the far-right by normalising some of their policies, especially on migration and law and order. But this drift to the right is not unavoidable and can be stopped. Social attitude surveys reveal that there is a majority for economic and social justice and for progressive social values. The success of the New Popular Front in France and independent left candidates in Britain demonstrates this.

What are the roots of the rise of the far-right? Where do they come from? And how do we organise and unite to stop creeping fascism? Speakers from the Nouveau Parti AntiCapitaliste in France, Rise in Ireland, and the Internationale Sozialistische Organisation in Germany will share their experiences and analysis to help us in Britain with ideas for a strategy.
