The world is in turmoil. We are facing multiple threats of climate chaos, economic crisis, creeping fascism and imperialist wars. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is devastating the country as it tries to annex at least part of it. Now Israel, following Hamas’s attack, is laying Gaza to waste as a step towards the annexation of yet more of Palestine.

American supremacy in the Middle East was knocked back following its failed invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. It is now stepping back into area by sending aircraft carriers, not to bring humanitarian aid to Palestinians but to back Israel, its regional imperialist ally.

American imperialist supremacy is being challenged by the rise of China. Putin is reinventing Russia’s own imperialism with the invasion of Ukraine. Other major players like India have their own imperialist ambitions.

Washington has been stoking a New Cold War since the late 1990s through NATO expansion and the recent AUKUS alliance in the Pacific. USA is still the top dog among competing imperialist states. But internationalists cannot ignore the repression and exploitation by non-Western states opposed to Washington.

The outcome of the wars in Ukraine and Palestine will determine the shape of politics for the period ahead. The people of Ukraine and Palestine have to be supported in their fight for liberation, despite their right wing or reactionary governments.

In these dangerous times, resistance is urgent. Anti-imperialism and internationalist solidarity today means not just fighting the ruling class in our own country, but helping the fight against capitalism and reaction around the world.

Join us for a day of discussion on the meaning of internationalism today.
