Cable Street 90 march unites our communities

This is Press release from Cable Street 90 Organising Committee. We call on all our readers to support the march on Sunday 4 October. The ACR will be there. Come and meet us.

Friday 2 October 2026

On Sunday 4 October 2026 the Cable Street 90 march will take place through London’s East End. This is an event buil with local community, trade union, and anti-racist organisations working with the support of Tower Hamlets Council and the Mayor. It will be a joyous, family-friendly celebration of unity against fascism and antisemitism on this day in 1936. We recall with pride the solidarity of Irish and Jewish people in Cable Street itself, despite the efforts of the fascists to set these communities against each other.

This day belongs to the descendants of all those who came together to resist the fascists, and all who are committed to continuing the struggle against racism and for equality and dignity for all in our shared multicultural spaces. That is why the banner of Cable Street 90 bears the motto: “No to Antisemitism, No to Islamophobia. No to all racism

Several of our Jewish speakers will talk about their mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles who participated in the events in the East End on 4 October 1936. Speakers from Bangladeshi organisations will recall the fight to be free from racist violence and discrimination from the 1970s to today.

We have been made aware of a planned mobilisation at Aldgate East called by several far right, Israel-advocacy groups, including ‘Stop the Hate’ and ‘Our Fight’ whose members have taken part in Tommy Robinson’s rallies, where Islamophobia has been rampant. These groups accept support from known far right and fascist elements and are not welcom on the Cable Street 90 march and rally, which defends and upholds good community relations. We will not allow the purpose and the spirit of the Cable Street 90 march to be sabotaged by those with divisive and hostile agendas.

The Cable Street 90 march and rally will have a strong international aspect. We will welcome speakers and marchers who will honour the antifascist struggle in Spain against General Franco’s forces from 1936-38. Many people from Tower Hamlets volunteered to fight against Franco’s forces through the International Brigades. Sadly, more than 20 of them died there. Here in Britain and in Spain they said “No Pasaran!” – They Shall Not Pass!” We still do.
