Covid‑19 has wreaked havoc across the world. But we know there is a way out of this crisis.

Thanks to largely publicly funded research, we now have a number of extremely successful vaccines developed at record speed.

However, while the UK is hoping for a return to relative normality this summer, some of the poorest countries haven’t been able to even start vaccinating their population.

TELL THE GOVERNMENT: BACK CALLS TO SUSPEND VACCINE PATENTS

There is a solution that could save countless lives and potentially prevent more dangerous mutations from emerging: a temporary waiver of intellectual property rights over the vaccines to ensure countries across the world can scale up production.

It has already been proposed by South Africa and India, but rich countries, including the UK, the US, and the EU, are blocking this initiative.

Ahead of the next crucial meeting of the World Trade Organisation on March 10, we are calling on the UK government to support the TRIPS Waiver proposal and urge others to do the same.
