An activist from Palestine Action has been remanded to prison for allegedly planning direct action to disrupt business operations at the London Stock Exchange (LSE). The LSE is complicit in enabling Israel’s apartheid regime against Palestinians by facilitating capital flows to Israeli companies and trading shares in arms manufacturers that equip Israel’s military and security services.
This courageous activist was willing to risk their own freedom to take principled action against the instruments of repression that are financing the ongoing oppression and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. Their jailing is a political act by the capitalist British state that seeks to criminalise solidarity with the Palestinian liberation struggle.
The capitalist media has aided state repression by sending an undercover journalist to infiltrate Palestine Action and pass information to the police. The Daily Express and other corporate outlets have consistently manufactured consent for Israel’s war crimes through one-sided, biassed coverage. Rather than report the facts, they conspire with the forces of the state to repress voices speaking truth to power.
This case highlights the hypocrisy of a system that jails peaceful activists while allowing war profiteers, returning IDF soldiers, and human rights abusers to operate freely. It also demonstrates the importance of building a revolutionary alternative that can challenge the propaganda and coercion deployed routinely to protect the interests of the ruling class.
As Marxist revolutionaries, we stand in full solidarity with Palestine Action and all those detained for taking principled stands with the oppressed. We cannot rely on the organs of capitalist justice; we must organise and mobilise collectively to free our jailed comrades and advance the grassroots struggle for Palestinian liberation through the masses. Victory to the Palestinian struggle! End the genocide in Gaza!
