CaSWO! are very pleased to announce that both care workers and support workers have been included on the Greater London Authority’s keyworker list, giving us priority access to affordable housing in the UK’s capital!
This has been confirmed by the Greater London Authority who released the list earlier this week.
This is fantastic news and we would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who signed our petition and the members of the London Assembly who unanimously passed our motion last month.
Those of us working in social care should be able to afford to live in the communities we serve and we hope this policy will make that possible for a significant number of us.
However, while prioritization for affordable housing schemes may help many, affordable housing is still more expensive than social housing and could remain inaccessible for those of us on the lowest incomes. With 71% of our workforce still earning below the Real Living Wage, we still have a lot more work to do!
This is why we will need your continued support to fight for the terms and conditions workers in our sector deserve! In order to be kept up to date with future campaigns and ways you can help, please sign up for our mailing list.
Right now, we are campaigning for the reinstatement of free parking for care workers in Waltham Forest, London. You can support us by signing the petition.
Thank you again to every single person who signed our petition. Knowing we have the support of so many people has been amazing. We couldn’t do this without you!
Merry Christmas and a happy 2022! CaSWO
